European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008
2008 has been designated as the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.

EUCLID has been appointed as the official UK National Coordination Body [NCB] for EYID 2008.
(EUCLID is already working as the UK Cultural Contact Point for the EU’s Culture Programme).

The official slogan for the Year has been disseminated to all National Co-ordinating Bodies for EYID - in respect of the 'communication campaign of the European Year 2008':
"Together in diversity" has been chosen to express cultural diversity and dialogue.
EYID Logo
If, during 2008, your organisation is involved in an activity addressing the themes of the Year, you will also be able to include the official EYID logo [pictured above] on your website and publicity materials – and such activities and events will also be promoted through the website. More information about using the logo is now available email sherry@euclid.info
EU Launch Events
The official launch event for EYID 2008 has been re-sheduled. A press launch - for the local press in Brussels and the foreign press based in Brussels - is scheduled to take place on 4 December 2007. More info to follow.
Updates from Brussels
The UK NCB recently attended two key meetings in Brussels: the second meeting of the Consultative Committee for EYID 2008, held on 18 October 2007; and the second meeting of the National Coordination Bodies for EYID 2008, held on 19 October 2007.

EC Consultation on Multilingualism
A consultation for the culture sector, particularly those operators who have have participated in a European project recently or have interest in European language policy.
In developing its policy and actions with respect to the role and place of languages within the EU, the European Commission wishes to take into account the views and expectations of individuals and expert organisations. For this purpose, a consultation website has been opened as of today, where you may give us your opinion by filling in a questionnaire: http://ec.europa.eu/education/multiling/
The consultation web site will be open until 15 November 2007 and the results of the survey will be made available in the first half of 2008. Please feel free to add the link to the questionnaire to your website or pass on this information within your professional network.
Council of Europe White Paper on EYID
A white paper on EYID is scheduled to be published by the Council of Europe in November 2007.
Cultural Forum, Lisbon, Portugal (26-28 September 2007)
The UK NCB attended a cultural forum hosted under Portugal's EU Presidency. The UK NCB participated in a two-day workshop on Intercultural Dialogue - open to NCBs, EC officials and civic society alike. Upon the findings, recommendations were made to the President of the European Commission J.M. Barroso, the Commissioner responsible for Education, Training, Culture and Youth Jan Figel, and Ministers of Culture from within the 27 nations of the EU and EU candidate countries.

Throughout 2008, activities promoting a dialogue between different cultures will take place all over Europe. They will be supported and run by youth organisations, cultural actors, pedagogical institutions and many further key playersand stake holders in the field of intercultural dialogue.
The website has been developed in cooperation with civil society; launched in two phases:
Phase One: The partner section of EYID 2008 The part of the website that is specifically dedicated to partners from civil society has been launched in a preliminary design. It offers a unique networking plarform for partners who share the goals of the EYID 2008. So before the official launch of EYID 2008, you can get involved. (This sectionis to be published in the other 22 official EU languages).
Phase Two: With the official launch of EYID 2008 in November 2007, the overall website targeting the broad public, especially young people, will be launched.
The whole website will then feature the EYID campaign design. Go to the official page and become part of the EYID 2008. Log in and establish a profile of your organisation.
Benefits: Find out about how to get involved in EYID 2008. Increase your visibility by presenting your organisation and your projects, your objectives and messages
Get connected with other organisations all over Europe and find out about their activities,
exchange good practices, experience and know-how with others. Of course, the more people participate in this initiative, the more dialogue and exchange will be initiated and the more intercultural dialogue in Europe will be promoted.

Civil Society Platform for ICD Consultation on EYID 2008 (deadline now passed)
In 2007 Civil Society Platform for Intercultural Dialogue announced a “Rainbow Paper”: Recommendations to help shape a cross-cutting and effective Agenda for Intercultural Dialogue for Europe. This was a public consultation; the deadline was Wednesday 22nd August 2007.

In respect of Euclid's appointment as the UK's NCB for EYID 2008 we are currently devising a programme of special events to invoke, and celebrate, the core theme of intercultural dialogue during 2008. We are discussing ideas with potential partners and will be bringing you updated information about key events in the UK for the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, 2008.

Our 'Intercultural Cities' conference [ICC] is set to be a banner event for ICD in the UK.
